The rest follows in this clip.

Re: Handsworth Tai Chi Class

withso many services closing because they are not used or are too expensive, this tai chi class is fantastic and really needs the support of the council and community. I hope Midlands Today and the local press pick it up and highlight it to more people

Re: Contact

The article is simply based on Birmingham City Council budget data. I have included a link to the raw data. Also note that the reference to Sutton Coldfield is at a constituency level and there are seven libraries namely Boldmere, Mere GreenSutton, Coldfield Children's Library, Sutton Coldfield Lending & Music Library, Sutton Coldfield Reference Library
Walmley, and Wylde Green.

Re: Contact

you need to get the facts right on a site like this - sutton coldfield no longer has a library - there is a small library in four oaks and one in walmley and it has been like that for some time

Re: Why does Sutton Coldfield have more librarians than Perry Bar Constituency?

Sure, that will be a useful dimension to our library inquiry. I will launch another FOI request. Do you have any suggestions how the request could actually be worded?

Re: Why does Sutton Coldfield have more librarians than Perry Bar Constituency?

Certainly interesting because the dates are for December 2011. That is a story on its own.
Here is a link to the data http://bit.ly/A8yJVS.

Re: Why does Sutton Coldfield have more librarians than Perry Bar Constituency?

It might also be worth finding out about local demand - for example, local colleges (although they would have their own libraries) may have an impact. In theory, the more a library is used the more staff are needed, whereas population is an indirect indicator of need. Still, the figures are striking.

Re: Why does Sutton Coldfield have more librarians than Perry Bar Constituency?

What dates does the data cover? Sutton's central library has been closed for over a year due to asbestos - would be interesting to see how that affects the figures.

Re: About

Hello Shilangu
I do like the site.
Digital Birmingham have a project, Birmingham Civic Dashboard, which receives a report of the requests that come in from members of the public for services from Birmingham City Council each day. It then produces a number of visualisations of that data, such as showing them on a map.
It's been live for a couple of months now and I'm holding an event next Tuesday from 4 - 7pm at Fazeley Studios to talk to local bloggers about what they think about the site and also how it could be more useful to them.
It would be great if you, or anybody else who is involved in the site, were to come along. Sign up is through the Eventbrite page here.

Re: Councillor Waseem Zaffar receives the library petition from Handsworth Against the Cuts

Thanks Dilbagh Dhami. We will be collaborating actively for the good of our neighbourhood. We had a great meeting a fortnight ago. I was thrilled by the ideas from other citizen journalists. Please can you furnish me with the identities of other citizen journalists in Handsworth so that we could collaborate more.

Re: About

My name is Aftab Rahman and I am the director of a small charity called Legacy WM. We have been successful in gaining funds from Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a project called 'Bangla Food Journeys' this is about recording Bangladeshi heritage through food. I am in the process of developing a new bid to HLF for a project called, 'Lozells and East Handsworth heritage trail'. The aim is to identity some of the historical buildings and record what they did and what they do now. This will include giving guided tours of the buildings. Is this something that your organisation may be interested in?

Re: About

Are you aware of hands on habdsworth - a site that has been doing something very similar? Might be as well to help that thrive rather than start from scratch - could alos increase the chances of what youre doing being sustaunable. There's also a network of "citizen journalists" in handsworth.
